STEMAg

At Lobethal Lutheran we have a whole school focus on STEMAg. Many of our students are from farming families. The STEMAg program engages students in learning which is relevant to them, building on their interests and scaffolding them to develop key problem solving and STEM skills.

Our STEMAg program was developed as result of a consultative process with students, staff and parents. We discovered that the rural community setting of the school can be leveraged to offer genuine opportunities to engage with local businesses and satisfy a need for increased community connection, and that the school community had a passion for authentic education.

Our students work across traditional school levels finding and solving real problems within the agriculture. STEMAg begins with students, supported by teachers, identifying what they believe needs to be addressed within our local agricultural community

All of our learning is in response to real problems faced in our Ag community. This authenticity adds a layer of engagement for our learners.

AI Drone Cow Classification

In this ground breaking project our students have used online program teachable machine to develop and code a program to use AI to classify cows.

The students input data and wrote code to allow drone cameras to recognise and classify cows based on their markings, removing the need for plastic ear tags.

This innovative project is a first in the Australian cattle industry and is a great example of our school leading the way in STEM and authentic learning.
