At Vineyard we are committed to differentiating out curriculum at allow for different learning styles. We focus on assisting all students to achieve the outcome.
Our highly successful coding program has reached new heights, with students building upon their problem solving skills and broadening their horizons.
A cohort of students wanted to integrate their strong musical skills into programming and write code for a song.
They decided to use a Raspberry Pi and write the code using Sonic Pi software. A Raspberry Pi is an wallet sized mini computer, we ordered ours cheaply on eBay.

The Raspberry Pi plugs into a screen via a HDMI cable, it is operated with a keyboard and mouse via USB.
The set up was as easy as ‘Pi’, we just plugged it in and ran the out of the box software which came with the Pi preloaded onto an SD card.

The standard Raspberry Pi software comes with Scratch, Sonic Pi, Mathematica – even a Pi version of Minecraft which my 6 year old son loved!

One lesson in and we were set up and had run through the tutorials. The first mini challenge the students set was to write the code for Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, they reached that goal today also!
The Sonic Pi software is fantastic, it offers great opportunities to develop digital literacy, problem solving, maths skills and teaches students how to code. I am very excited to see where this leads students next.
