Superwurm!

Well today was FUN! In German we read the story ‘Superwurm’ by Julia Donaldson. I always try to accommodate all types of learning styles in my lessons. This was an opportunity to cater for kinaesthetic learners and offer a sensory experience. The added bonus is that even those students who have a different predominant learning style can benefit from sensory learning,as when we stimulate all of the senses greater connections can be made and thus the learning more concrete.
We began by reading the story, with the children reciting the chant in German.
We then dug through rice soil to find our superwurms.
Using the found worms we created our own superwurms. The students were able to use any beads or buttons at their disposal. Their creations were outstanding.
The very engaged students developed fine motor skills, patterning and as they created their wurms I asked them to narrate to a partner ; ‘Meine wurm ist rot und gelb’.
Finally the students asked to record their creations in their books – I said yes!!
