Oh no!

Teaching about the parts of the body has lots of interesting opportunities in the Languages Classroom. Children learn best in play based and inquiry situations, I decided to take this view when teaching this unit. I front loaded the children with vocabulary surrounding the body and illness. I then provided band aids, bandages, doctor’s kits, puppets and erasable ink. I asked the students in partners to invent an illness or injury and have one student doctor and one the patient. All talking must be in German. The response was overwhelming, lots of engagement, lots of questioning – how do I say that?, lots of peer learning. The outcome of learning the parts of the body was definitely met, with the added bonus of lots of vocabulary surrounding illness and injuries. Lots of fun was had too πŸ™‚
