So – Coding – definitely a success! Throughout the following 2 weeks students have continued to be engaged in developing their own games and projects by writing code.
When using technology at Vineyard we always try to think in terms of Redefintion from the SAMR model – is the use of technology authentic in this activity, are iPads been used in a way which redefines the lesson. Coding has allowed students to redefine the expression of their learning. Twice this week students wrote code to demonstrate their learning, one in Christian Studies, the outcome being to learn a Bible Verse. The students created a game which selects the reference and reveals the verse – a seemingly very simple application, but when we keep in mind the outcome – to learn a Bible verse – it was most definitely achieved, but with 100 % engagement.

Another student chose to write code to create a simple book in German. It was created with Foundation students in mind, as the student tapped each bear the story continued.
It has been very satisfying to witness students engaging with their learning and developing skills which will benefit them both extrinsically; writing code, mathematical processes and intrinsically; problem solving and creativity.

We are now utilising GamePress with a view to publishing the students Apps on iTunes.
