There are lots of ways to make languages relevant to students. One method popular with the students is to read well-known picture books in the target language. This term students have enjoyed redaing ‘Der Regenbogen Fisch’ (the Rainbow Fish), ‘Zehn Kleine Z’ehn’ (Ten Little Fingers), ‘Braun Bar Braun Bar’ (Brown Bear, Brown Bear) and ‘Eins Fisch, Zwei Fisch’ (One Fish, Two Fish) amongst others. The reading of the books is often followed by a hands on task to cater to different learning styles, these have included fishing for German words, retelling the story using manipulatives or creating a retell on the iPad using iMovie or StoryBook Creator.
